For the most detail, use a non-toxic ink pad (the baby and pet-safe ones work great, and are inexpensive and easy to find in most craft or baby stores and online, including Amazon): press the finger flat onto the pad, roll it gently onto plain white paper, then take a clear photo in good lighting and upload. Prefer not to use ink? You can also simply take a close-up, well-lit photo of your fingertip with the ridges clearly visible. Either way, sharp focus and even lighting give the best result.
